White Jeans? In Winter? Groundbreaking.

Hello!

I know it seems like I haven't been posting for a while, but actually, I'm more into my blog than ever before and I've been quite a busy little bee behind the scenes; burrowing away - crafting content I haven't really done before.

I read a post by From Roses before writing this, in it, Rebecca hopes, like so many writers I follow, for more traffic on her posts in the new year. I know blogging seems to be a bit of a lost art form nowadays, cast aside for the bright lights of Instagram, but blogging has always been an art form I've loved; both reading and writing. I find, it doesn't matter whether you're the best writer or have the greatest grammar - it's just a wonderful experience getting to know the person behind the posts.

Among all my articles - half written and half shot in my drafts column - I thought I'd just take a little moment to share a pair of jeans which are, first of all, incredibly rogue for me and second, rogue for anyone this time of year.

WHITE JEANS

I KNOW. What did I tell you? ROGUE. My best friend commented on this snap on Instagram, telling me she "couldn't believe I was wearing white after labour day". I'm going to be honest now, I totally did not understand the reference - help a girl out right?! I'm not the only one?

I do however, understand that wearing white jeans in winter is verrryyy rogue for anyone. Let alone myself.

Surely pale pants are resigned for the Spring and Summer months? A mere trifle to brighten up an already bright day.

Well, I can tell you, apparently not.

These babies have been working absolute wonders for me over these colder months.

They keep me feeling cool and crisp when the dull and drab weather would dampen down your spirits.

Before now, I've always been of the opinion white jeans are for chavvy girls, back in the 90's, with their 'tramp stamps' on show and tucked at the bottom into a pair of garish Ugg boots. Never before have I had the urge to partake in such a trend.

I remember a girl wearing a pair back in year 8. We were on a Ski Trip (ooh how middle class of us) with school. I remember all 30 of us sitting in a corridor - probably waiting for a lesson or more likely - food - when a Spanish babe hopped over our legs. She was clearly A LOT older than all of us; oozing sex appeal I remember wishing I had. Her wild, curly hair bounced as she stepped over our lanky limbs and the white jeans she was wearing set her golden brown skin alight. The boys honestly couldn't take their eyes off her - much to my 12 year old dismay. Neither could I, I suppose. Back then wasn't the time of gals supporting gals though, and I was left questioning: "why wouldn't they like my sketcher trainers and slogan tee?".  "She mustn't be wearing any underwear," I overheard another girl in my class whisper to her friend, "you'd be able to see straight through to them otherwise".
I swore off white jeans there and then.

Deeming them fit only for what I thought of as 'tacky girls' *eye roll* and anyone in a girlband.

My tides were turned however, by Lydia. If you want an array of chic outfits I suggest you give her a follow. Her feed is full of crafted content you wish you could pull off yourself.

Lydia eased me in with her repeated use of cream jeans - more often than not in culotte form rather than skinny or straight.

Was I a changed woman?

I dipped a toe in first with the former; a pair of cream jean crop flares  from Nasty Gal.

They made me feel cool - often teamed with a striped tee and a pair of chunky trainers or boots and an oversized jumper.

The perfect transitional piece.

As this Christmas season has started to sneak it's festive head around the corner though, I  have ended up needing something a little dressier.

I found myself reluctant to tidy away the white jeans into the deep dark depths of my wardrobe - never to be touched again until next spring.

So, again, on the recommendation of Lydia's Instagram stories, I bought a second pair... these actually.

Nasty Gal again, but brighter white this time and straight. Still not the skin tight skinny's I imagined on the afformentioned pop girl bands of the nineties but skinnier all the same.

Think more along the lines of 'MOM' jeans.

Honestly, I've not taken them off in the last month. They just work with absolutely everything and for every occasion I could possibly find myself invited to this Christmas season.

Here, as you can see, I've teamed them with a tartan blazer from Whistles and a pair of black faux croc Steve Madden boots.

(Perfect for my tartan on tartan caption on Instagram - ahur..)

I wore this outfit for a Christmas curry with my girlfriends in Leeds. It was perfect - the place we went wasn't too dressy you know, so I caught the vibe just right. As I walked into the restaurant I felt the eyes from a gaggle of girls look my outfit up and down. Of course it could have been disdain for the pop of orange peeking from my boots - damn my lack of muted socks - but I don't think that was quite the case.

I've also been to a gig in these babies; instead teaming them with a camel duster and chunky gold jewellery; shopped with my girlfriends in a candy floss pink coat and stayed simple and monochromatic in a dog tooth Mac.

I can whole heartedly say, I won't be shying away from a pair of white pegs any longer - and I'd especially recommend them if you're after something a bit different to your black and blue pairs.

I finally offer my sincere apologies to that gorgeous European babe that leaped over our legs back in year 8 - you were ahead of the curve hun clearly.

What about you? Are you a white jean fan? Can I tempt you to change your ways?

E x
